Marianas Trench’s new album Astoria came out last week, and it has been the only thing I have listening to since.
I’m planning a giant post regarding my love (and slight annoyances) with the album. But for now, I’m going to share one of my favourite songs on the album, “Wildfire.”
This. Song. Is. Heartbreaking.
The whole song is about a partner leaving the speaker, and continuing to return whenever they’re alone:
So now you show up when you’re alone again
But we haven’t changed, but now you’re interested
And maybe you’re here because you wanna come home
But what if you’re just afraid to be alone
Josh Ramsay’s voice is just so full of emotion in this song. Astoria is a concept album based on the crisis he experienced in his past two years, which involves the falling apart of his engagement. Most of the songs in the album seem to be about this particular event, but nothing really captures it like this song does.
And does it sound like something Marianas Trench has done before? Yes, yes it does. But i’ll get to that in my giant Astoria post (a link will be added when it’s finally done).
But for now, let me know if you’ve listened to Astoria and what you liked (or didn’t like) about it in comments below!
