The Playlist

The Playlist | In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel

When I read Will Grayson, Will Grayson and Will was obsessed with a band called “Neutral Milk Hotel”, I thought the band was fake.

And that’s not an unfair assumption. John Green is always making jokes about names for bands—real or not.

So you could imagine my surprise when I discovered that it was an actual band. Even more so with how much I liked this song.

I don’t fully understand this song, but from what I understand, the whole album is loosely inspired by A Diary of a Girl by Anne Frank. And yet, the song has a very YOLO, live in the moment attitude about it:

“And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see
Love to be
In the arms of all I’m keeping here with me “

But as I puzzle it out, I’ll be listening to this song for a while.
