Review | Seriously…I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen, stop making me laugh. Seriously…I’m kidding.
Books_SeriouslyKidding

The fun thing about comedy is that while you’re laughing, the joke often has something truthful about life in it. And that’s exactly what Ellen does in her book.

A lot of her jokes are about society, how people used to interact compared to social media. And I like her upbeat, cheerful tone.

Part of the reason why it’s so great is that Ellen has a really conversational style. It’s reminiscent of her talk show, making the reader comfortable with the content. She also tries to to appeal to many audiences (partly as a joke), by providing a variety of content, while still appealing to a large audience.

The one issue I really have is that the book can get a little too conversational at times. I get frustrated because I can’t talk back and it feels like a one-sided conversation. In that way, this would probably be a really fun audiobook.

I don’t really have much to say beyond that. I don’t read this genre…well, ever, but I did enjoy the book. Maybe I’ll delve into Tina Fey’s Bossypants or Amy Pohler’s Yes Please.

Final Verdict

Recommendation: Read.  Seriously…I’m Kidding is a fun, quick read that fans of Ellen and her talk show are sure to enjoy.

  1. Ellen is hilarious. Whenever I have bad day I always go on youtube and lookup the hidden camera with David Beckham and the masseuse. It always cracks me up. XD
But this sounds like a fun read!
