Any fans of Disney? How about the musical Wicked? And enjoy parodies, with good musical numbers? (And a little older considering all the swearing and explicit content?)
Then I have perfect thing for you to watch: Starkid’s Twisted.
Starkid is a theatre group that was created in 2009 at the University of Michigan by Darren Criss, Brian Holden, Matt Lang, and Nick Lang.
Darren Criss sound familiar? Yes, it is the actor from Glee. His start was with this group as Harry Potter in their production, A Very Potter Musical. (Another show I recommend.)
Starkid’s shows are all parodies of famous stories, taking the source material, and taking a new spin on it. They aren’t trying to be irreverent though, because they too are fans of Harry Potter, DC Comics, and Disney.
Twisted is their latest show, released on Youtube only two days, and it has become one of my favourites. They are very true to the Disney style, while still poking fun and making their own story. This is especially true since while parodying Disney, they are parodying Wicked, the story of the Wizard of Oz from the point of view of the Wicked Witch of the West. Twisted is Aladdin from the point of view of Jafar, and is well put together.
All in all, I really loved this show, and definitely recommend it.
